Venus Electrical was started some years ago by brothers Ebrahim and Mohammad Ameen Ismail. The market was in need for electrical and hardware goods. So, the brothers gave up their jobs and used their entrepreneurial skills and opened Venus Electrical in the Fordshurg area. Later another store was opened in Lenasia.

Mr. Ismail has come a long way and was victim of the treacherous apartheid laws, living in cramped and overcrowded conditions in Becker Street. Their father was a hawker in the Diagonal Street area selling blankets and other small items to make ends meet for their large family. Often his goods were confiscated by the unscrupulous police as he was not allowed to trade In the streets in those years.

The brothers were shop assistants before opening their present business. They too were part of the oppressed masses who were exploited and under-paid in the past as they were not allowed to be members of a trade union movement.

Despite all the hardship and struggles the brothers have persevered over the years. Today they can employ a small workforce and dedicate themselves to their business.
